4月5日 ドキュメンタリー映画 ”Civet Coffee: From Rare to Reckless” 上映します

2024.3.27

We are excited to invite you to the first-ever screening of the documentary  ”Civet Coffee: From Rare to Reckless.”

The 90-minute event will include live introduction and live Q&A session and you can learn about the rise of civet coffee, known as ‘kopi luwak’ or ‘cat-poo-chino,’ and how this product could be the downfall of the civet species and have detrimental impacts on conservation and human health.
This includes global ramifications of civet coffee production, which has attracted international attention since the early 2000s, raising significant concerns about animal welfare and conservation. The film exposes the truth behind civet coffee, where misleading market claims about product rarity deceive tourists into thinking it is wild-collected. In reality, civets are captured from the wild and confined to farms, contributing to the widespread issue of snaring in southeast Asia.  This documentary acknowledges the crucial role civets play in maintaining ecosystem health as effective seed dispersers and understand the potential consequences of their removal for entire ecosystems – and how tourism drives this dangerous and inhumane coffee trade.
