Japanese IVCMEP students have visited Zambia
2022.10.7
From 19th August to 3rd September 2022, our programme (IVCMEP) has sent 8 master’s students to Zambia. This year, students came from the faculty of Engineering, Global Food Resources, Veterinary Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Economics, and Natural Sciences.
During their two-week stay, students have joined a walking tour by a ranger in a National Park, were given lectures from local NGOs working in the field of conservation activities to gain an understanding of ecology and wildlife. On another day students had an opportunity to visit the JICA office and have a discussion with JICA office members and observe the ongoing projects to gain insights into Japanese International Cooperation.
As the country’s major industry is the extraction of mineral resources, we also visited a few mining sites to witness efforts to maintain a balance between industrial activities and environmental conservation. In addition to those visits, students had two days to engage in self-designed research projects. They have found some answers and brought back questions they keep on looking answers for.
Students who participated in the programme had rich experiences of engaging in the discussion with experts from the field different from their own. We have high hopes for them to become contributors to solving social issues we face today in the global world.
