Hokkaido University students visited Zambia for IVCMEP 2023
2023.10.3
We, IVCMEP, sent students to the Republic of Zambia for a two-week programme from August 19 to September 4, 2023.
It was the second year of our program and 8 IVCMEP students participated. They paid visits to a wide range of fields related to conservation medicine during their two-week stay in Zambia. This year, master’s and doctoral students from seven different schools participated in the programme, and there were many opportunities for participants with diverse backgrounds to learn from each other.
During their stay, the students were exposed to a wide range of topics related to conservation medicine, including sustainable resource development, waste management, wildlife conservation, and health care, with a focus on field visits. During the last three days of the programme, the students also conducted self-designed activities (SDA), in which they created their own proposals and worked with local counterparts to conduct activities. The program allowed each student to delve deeper into a theme that utilizes their expertise or is related with their career path.
After returning to Japan, the students gave a presentation on their activities, which was open to students and faculty members. It was also recorded so it could be shared with our Zambian cohorts and those who could not make it.
Detailed reports on the activities will be compiled from the submitted students’ reports and made public later on.
The application guidelines for the 2024 academic year will become available in February 2024, and we will start accepting applications in April. If you are interested in joining our programme, please check this website periodically.
